How To Light a Pilot Light on a Furnace
It's very important to have an operational furnace. So, if you need to light the pilot light on your furnace quickly, follow these steps:
Check Your Furnace's Instructions
The first thing you want to do is to find the label of instructions on your furnace. Look around the body of your furnace, and you should see it there. This will give you specific information on how to light the pilot light. If you're having trouble locating this, we assist customers with tasks like this all the time. New River Heating & Air serves customers throughout Radford with their furnaces.
Confirm That Your Pilot Light Is "Off"
Whether you can locate the instructions panel or not, the first thing you want to do is look for a button or dial near the bottom of your furnace that says "Pilot / On / Off." Now, set that button or dial to the "Off" position and give it five minutes to clear out any lingering gas so as not to start a fire accidentally.
Ignite Your Furnace's Pilot Light With a Lighter
After at least five minutes, you can proceed by setting the same button from "Off" to "Pilot." Next, use your lighter for the pilot light by holding it up to the pilot opening. It may be helpful to use a long lighter or long wooden match in these circumstances. While you do this, be sure to hold down the "Reset" button. This button should be next to the "Pilot" button as well. There you go! Release the "Reset" button after you've lit your furnace's pilot light.
